Willard Winning!

I daresay Mitt Romney might have preferred a solid second place finish in an Iowa well known to skew far rightward, rather than eke out a pathetic 8 vote "victory" with fewer votes than he resoundingly lost with last time around, winning with the smallest percentage in the history of the caucus, winning with scarcely more Iowans supporting him than supported President Obama the same night -- in a no-stakes non-contest without even facing a challenger.

The weird victory speech launching unexpectedly into bizarre bellicosity toward Iran (after all, what American does not pine for yet another endless war in the Middle East right about now?) and then mopping up with random spoken-word snippets from "My Country 'Tis of Thee" (not making this up) didn't exactly inspire confidence, although I am sure Willard's genuflection to Wal-Mart as a model of job creation won him lots of new fans across the heartland.

It is well known that support for Romney has lodged like a gnat in amber in the precinct of 25% for many years now, since the contest which he lost to Grumpy McAncient, all through the Obama Administration, through every episode so far of the GOP Presidential Reality Show in which a string of not-Romney saviors flavors of the month with little but being not-Romney to recommend them each rising splashily into the stratosphere only to explode upon scrutiny of their stupidity and weirdness (revealing them to be palpably unelectable, but nicely representative of their party in this consummating moment of their Crazytown Movement Republicanism), year after year, month after month, day after day, poll after poll, forever fixed to a little more or a little less than 25%, winning against everybody else in a party in crazy disarray with that little more or little less than 25%, winning, winning, winning right up to the general election in which something like 25% delivers a shattering loss from which these evil greedy ignorant idiotic bigot loons will never recover, let us fervently hope.
